Theater music written and recorded in 1994 for the staging of "Balladyna" by Juliusz Słowacki, a masterpiece of Polish romanticism, directed by Rudolf Zioło at the Ludowy Theater in Krakow's Nowa Huta.
Contrary to the title, the album has nothing to do with the legendary recording from 1975 for the German label ECM Records - the original main theme appears here in several different versions, and the dominant atmosphere is slightly depressing, even fatalistic.
This is the first recording with the participation of musicians from the Simple Acoustic Trio band (Marcin Wasilewski - piano, Sławomir Kurkiewicz - double bass, Michał Miśkiewicz - drums), who in a few years will become members of the trumpeter's permanent Quartet. Also noteworthy are the moving vocals of Ewa Wanat from the legendary NOVI Singers and the solo parts of the great saxophonist Tomasz Szukalski.
